Educational Projects — 2008 to 2012
First MétisMalagasy visit to Ankazomagnitse (2008)
In 2008, several association members spent a month in Madagascar and travelled to Ankazomagnitse to assess local needs together. The association’s first priority was confirmed: support the village school and make education more accessible to children living in this poor, semi-arid part of Androy.
The only rural school had 124 pupils, all grouped into one large class in a wooden structure. A single teacher organised the timetable so that different age and learning levels could be taught throughout the week.
MétisMalagasy therefore focused its 2008 support on the school:
Distribution of notebooks, pencils, chalk, educational games and other school supplies donated by individuals and schools.
Purchase of three wooden benches and three wooden tables.
Organisation of a small sweet snack for the children.
Second MétisMalagasy visit to the Érada municipality (2012)
During the second association visit, it was decided to support a second school in Bélitsake, around one kilometre from Ankazomagnitse.
In 2012, the two schools had a combined enrolment of 267 pupils. The association distributed school supplies, including notebooks, pencils and uniforms, together with creative materials such as paints and coloured paper.
Two carts and two zebu cattle were donated to help transport drinking water to the schools and to support pupils who otherwise faced long walks. This project was financed by Les Papiers de l’Espoir.
During the same visit, humanitarian initiatives were also launched:
Donation of a fuel-efficient wood-burning cooker to the school canteen, with on-site training to reduce charcoal use and preserve increasingly scarce wood resources.
Delivery of Singer sewing machines to Ambovombe to help launch a sewing school in partnership with the Ambovombe Red Cross and the women’s association Miavotse (“to get by / become self-reliant”).
