Education, Healthcare and Development for Southern Madagascar
To live is to share!
Métis Malagasy is a French non-profit association founded in June 2007. Based in Saint-Nazaire (Loire-Atlantique), it brings together more than 150 members, donors and followers from a wide range of backgrounds.
Our primary mission is to support village communities in Androy, a region in southern Madagascar.
In 2021, Androy was described as one of the first regions to face severe consequences linked to climate change. Remote and exposed to a semi-arid climate, the region has limited access to water, energy and basic school supplies…
Access to Education
Since its creation, the association has worked with primary schools in the rural municipality of Érada to develop, strengthen and sustain access to education for children in southern Madagascar within the public-school system. We work directly with the Regional Education Directorate. The association has built two permanent rural schools and supplied books, school materials and other essential resources.
We also provide financial support to teachers and school canteens so that children can learn without going hungry.
Basic Healthcare Centre
MétisMalagasy identified and launched a project to provide the sponsored primary schools and surrounding hamlets with local access to a basic healthcare centre (Centre de Santé de Base – CSB). The project continues to depend on the support and long-term commitment of our donors and partners. Completing this healthcare centre is a major milestone for these remote communities.
Sponsorship
Access to educational materials is difficult in these remote communities. Many families do not have the financial means to purchase basic school supplies, while public assistance does not cover all of these costs. Working with MétisMalagasy members, partners and local public organisations, we aim to ensure the quality and long-term sustainability of our support to the primary schools.
We encourage you to take part in the next sponsorship campaign for pupils leaving our two primary schools and moving on to secondary education, giving them the opportunity to continue their studies through secondary school and beyond.
““With the support of Association MétisMalagasy, we are now able to serve our pupils better than ever.”
