Association MétisMalagasy
A journey to Madagascar by a Malagasy family and a small group of friends revealed the extreme hardship faced by children attending rural schools in Androy, including communities located around 22 km south-west of Ambovombe. What they saw strengthened a shared determination to help make education accessible to all.
MétisMalagasy was founded in 2007 by a small group of people from Saint-Nazaire. By 2024, the association had around thirty members and more than one hundred donors and followers. Its executive committee currently consists of a President, Treasurer and Secretary, supported by three active members.
Since its creation, the association has supported two particularly disadvantaged rural schools by supplying school materials, uniforms and solar cookers for the canteens. Since 2019, the original school structures have been replaced by two permanent buildings equipped with solar panels. Staff accommodation has also been built for each school headteacher, helping strengthen local continuity and day-to-day management.
As pupil numbers continue to grow and our projects diversify, we are always looking for active members, donors and partners.

Since 2022, the association has also been developing a new project: the construction of a local healthcare facility, a Centre de Santé de Base II. Located near the schools, it is intended to improve access to healthcare for pupils’ families and surrounding communities.
Our projects are mainly funded through annual membership fees, individual donations, grants and proceeds from Christmas markets mainly in two towns, Saint-Nazaire and La Chapelle-sur-Erdre.
