One Book, One Child …
Context:
MétisMalagasy’s partnership with Biblionef supported the primary schools of Ankazomagnitse and Bélitsake in Madagascar’s far south. At the time, the two schools served more than 316 pupils in two large classes housed in basic structures. School levels ranged from nursery to upper primary, with very small teaching teams rotating between different groups during the week.
General-interest books selected for primary-school children — covering science, biology, fiction, geography, technology and poetry — were shipped by container to Ambovombe in October 2014. After customs, administrative and logistical delays, the books arrived in February 2015 and were entrusted to the Alliance Française of Ambovombe.
More than one thousand books were made available for children and secondary-school pupils to borrow through a library managed by the Municipal Library / Alliance Française. French-language and computer courses were subsequently launched at the Alliance Française library, with IT equipment supplied by MétisMalagasy.
French and computer classes were subsequently launched at the Alliance Française d’Ambovombe library. To this end, the MétisMalagasy association provided computer equipment to the Alliance Française d’Ambovombe.
Cultural Evening
On Saturday 14 March 2015, around sixty people gathered at Salle Marcel Pagnol in Saint-Nazaire to discover or rediscover MétisMalagasy. The friendly evening provided an opportunity to meet, exchange ideas and enjoy homemade Malagasy food.
New participants joined traditional Malagasy dancing, and many became members of the association. The event strengthened the support required to continue working with the Alliance Française of Ambovombe. Revenue from entrance fees, memberships, bar sales, meals and handicrafts generated a net contribution of €707 for the association.
A special thank-you goes to everyone who joined the traditional Afindrafindrao dance — and to the many volunteers who helped organise and clear the venue afterwards.
